The United States has once again voiced deep concern over the growing wave of violence and targeted attacks against Christian communities in Nigeria, urging the Federal Government to adopt stronger, more decisive measures to curb insecurity across the country.
According to senior US officials, the persistent assaults linked to extremist and jihadist elements in parts of Northern Nigeria have continued to raise alarm internationally, especially as affected communities report rising casualties, displacement, and destruction of property.
The US Defense Chief emphasized that Nigeria’s strategic importance in West Africa makes it crucial for the government to act swiftly to dismantle terror networks and protect vulnerable populations. He stressed that the international community is closely monitoring the situation and expects more effective security responses from Nigerian authorities.
The officials also reiterated Washington’s commitment to supporting Nigeria through intelligence sharing, security partnerships, and humanitarian assistance where necessary. However, they noted that long-term peace will require strong political will, improved coordination among security agencies, and justice for victims of religious-based attacks.
They concluded with a call for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of lives and restore confidence among communities living under constant threat.
