Police in Nasarawa State have arrested 37-year-old Pastor Asonye Isaiah of the Rock of Love and Adoration Ground (also known as Rock of Love and Mercy Adoration Ground) in Old Karshi, Abuja, for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl under the pretext of performing spiritual cleansing.
According to a statement from the Nasarawa State Police Command, operatives attached to the Karshi Divisional Headquarters arrested the pastor following a complaint lodged at the division on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at about 8:00 pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Pastor Isaiah allegedly deceived the victim’s aunt by claiming that the 16-year-old teenager was “possessed” and needed spiritual cleansing or ritual deliverance at a river. Instead of taking her to any river for the purported cleansing, he took the minor to a hotel in New Karshi, Nasarawa State.
At the hotel, the pastor is accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge (sexual intercourse) with the girl twice. He reportedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
The matter came to light when the victim’s guardian (aunt) noticed unusual changes in the girl’s behaviour and pressed her for an explanation. The girl eventually opened up, and she was immediately taken for a medical examination, which confirmed penile penetration.
During interrogation at the police station, Pastor Asonye Isaiah reportedly confessed to the offence and pleaded for leniency.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a more comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution. He assured that justice would be served without delay.
In a cautionary note, the police urged parents and guardians to be wary of individuals who claim to possess supernatural solutions for personal or family problems, especially when such claims involve isolating minors. The Command also advised the public to exercise caution regarding places of worship and people who parade themselves as clerics or spiritual leaders.
The incident has sparked concerns about the abuse of trust by some religious leaders and the vulnerability of young girls in such situations. As of April 19, 2026, the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue at the SCID in Lafia.
