Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested three armed suspects amid renewed attacks and killings in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.According to military sources, the suspects were apprehended during a special operation launched in response to the latest wave of violence that has unsettled several communities in the area.
The operation, which followed credible intelligence, led to the recovery of sophisticated firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons from the suspects.
A senior security official, who confirmed the arrest on Friday, said the troops acted swiftly to prevent further bloodshed and restore calm in the affected communities.“
The suspects were found in possession of illegal arms and have been taken into custody for further investigation. Our troops remain on the ground to ensure peace and prevent reprisal attacks,” the source stated.
Residents of Ohimini and neighbouring villages have expressed relief over the swift intervention by security forces, urging the government to sustain the military presence in the area to forestall future violence.
The suspects are expected to be handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution after preliminary investigations are concluded.
