According to witnesses, the tragic incident occurred over the weekend near the War U Sarwuan area, close to Tofi Grammar School. The victim was reportedly mistaken for a fleeing motorcycle thief.It was gathered that the mob had been chasing a suspected thief when the Okada rider, who was unaware of the situation, rode past them. Mistaking him for the suspect, the mob gave chase. In his attempt to avoid them, he lost control of his motorcycle during a sharp turn, causing his passenger to flee the scene and leaving him behind with the bike.
Despite his desperate pleas and attempts to prove his innocence by showing identification, the mob descended on him. Witnesses said one of the attackers struck him with a stone before he was set on fire.Moments after the gruesome act, the real owner of the motorcycle reportedly arrived at the scene and confirmed that the victim was not the thief. He explained that the deceased had only recently purchased the bike about two weeks earlier.
The victim, described as a responsible husband and father of three, was said to have been well-known in the community.A resident told Daily Trust that police operatives arrived later in the night, around 10 p.m., to evacuate the charred remains.Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
