Fubara Dismisses Commissioners, Top Government Officials in Rivers

News

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has relieved all commissioners and key public officers in his administration of their appointments in a sweeping cabinet shake-up.The announcement, made on Thursday in Port Harcourt, brings to an end the tenure of all members of the State Executive Council, including special advisers, senior aides, and heads of government agencies appointed by the governor.

Although the official statement did not provide reasons for the sudden dismissal, political observers say the move signals a major realignment within the state government as Fubara prepares to reposition his administration. The affected officials have been directed to immediately hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior directors in their respective ministries and agencies.

Governor Fubara, who has faced political turbulence in recent months amid internal crises within the Rivers political structure, is expected to announce fresh appointments soon as part of efforts to consolidate his leadership. The development has sparked reactions across the state’s political circles, with some interpreting it as a bold step by the governor to assert full control of his government.
