FCTA Seizes 40 Vehicles, 52 Motorcycles in Crackdown on ‘One Chance’ RobbersThe Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has stepped up its clampdown on illegal transport operators in Abuja, with enforcement teams impounding no fewer than 40 vehicles and 52 motorcycles for various offences.Officials said the operation, carried out across different parts of the city, targeted unregistered and unpainted taxis, as well as commercial motorcycles often linked to traffic violations and criminal activities, particularly the notorious “one chance” robberies.
The Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Dr. Abdulateef Bello, explained that the seizures were part of measures to sanitize the transport system and ensure the safety of residents. He noted that many of the impounded vehicles were used by criminals to disguise as commercial operators and dispossess unsuspecting passengers of their belongings.According to Bello, the motorcycles were also confiscated for operating in prohibited areas, posing both security and traffic risks. He stressed that the administration would not relent until illegal operators were completely flushed out of the FCT.“The safety of residents is paramount. We are committed to ensuring that only properly registered and authorized vehicles are allowed to operate as commercial transport.
This will go a long way in reducing criminal activities such as ‘one chance’ within the city,” he said.The DRTS boss further disclosed that owners of the impounded vehicles and motorcycles would face prosecution, while repeat offenders risk permanent forfeiture of their property.The FCTA has in recent months intensified its campaign against insecurity and lawlessness on Abuja roads, urging residents to use only designated motor parks and verified operators to avoid falling victim to criminal gangs.
