Suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Monday attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a teacher and abducting an unspecified number of students who were writing the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the school at about 9:00 a.m., firing sporadically into the air and causing panic among students, teachers, and residents. During the attack, a teacher was killed, while several NECO candidates were reportedly taken away to an unknown destination.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said an unspecified number of students were abducted, while others are still unaccounted for.
“At about 9 a.m., an unspecified number of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists attacked a secondary school and shot sporadically into the air. During the attack, an unspecified number of students were abducted, while some are still missing,” Daso said.
The latest attack comes just 47 days after terrorists abducted 42 pupils, including children as young as two years old, from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in the same Askira/Uba Local Government Area on May 15, 2026. The abducted children have yet to regain their freedom.
