The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public that efforts are underway to secure the safe release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State, dismissing reports suggesting that ransom negotiations are being considered.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, DIG Fayoade, gave the assurance while addressing concerns over the incident. He stated that security agencies have launched coordinated operations aimed at rescuing the victims unharmed and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
According to him, the police are working closely with other security agencies, local authorities, and community stakeholders to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of those abducted.
DIG Fayoade emphasized that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, particularly claims about ransom payments or negotiations.
He also appealed to residents to provide useful information that could assist security operatives in their rescue efforts, assuring that all credible intelligence would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The police leadership reiterated its determination to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities across the region, expressing confidence that the victims would be rescued safely.
