Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly condemned the growing trend of ethnic profiling in Nigeria, stressing that criminality should never be associated with any particular ethnic group.
Reacting to recent incidents and narratives that have fueled ethnic tensions, Obi urged Nigerians to reject divisive sentiments and focus on identifying and prosecuting individuals responsible for crimes rather than blaming entire communities.
According to him, crime is a personal choice and has no tribe, religion, or ethnicity. He warned that stereotyping ethnic groups based on the actions of a few individuals only deepens divisions and threatens national unity.
Obi emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than conflict. He called on citizens, community leaders, and public officials to promote understanding, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among all ethnic groups.
The former Anambra State governor also urged security agencies to remain professional and impartial in carrying out their duties, ensuring that justice is based on evidence and due process rather than ethnic considerations.
He reaffirmed his belief in a united Nigeria where every citizen is treated fairly regardless of tribe, religion, or region, adding that the fight against crime can only be successful when Nigerians work together and refuse to be divided by ethnic prejudices.
Obi concluded by calling on Nigerians to uphold the values of justice, equality, and national unity, insisting that no ethnic group should be stigmatized because of the actions of a few criminals.
