News

Suspected armed bandits have launched a deadly attack on Agwara community in Niger State, setting ablaze a police station and a church while abducting at least five residents.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the community late at night, firing sporadically to instil fear and force residents indoors before carrying out the arson attacks. The police station was reportedly overrun, with parts of the facility destroyed by fire, while a nearby church was also set ablaze during the raid.
In addition to the destruction, the attackers abducted five individuals whose identities had yet to be officially disclosed as of the time of reporting. Residents described the incident as terrifying, saying the community was left helpless as the attackers operated for several hours without resistance.
Security sources confirmed the attack and said efforts were underway to track the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims. Reinforcements have reportedly been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and restore calm.
The Niger State Police Command is yet to issue a detailed statement on casualties, arrests, or the extent of damage caused. Meanwhile, residents have called on the government to strengthen security in rural communities that have increasingly come under attack from armed groups.
The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Niger State, where bandit attacks, kidnappings, and arson have continued to pose serious threats to lives and property.
