One Dies as Customs Engage Suspected Smugglers in Gun Duel in Ogun

One person has been confirmed dead following a gun battle between operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and suspected smugglers in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to reports, the incident occurred during an intelligence-led operation by Customs officers who were said to be on patrol when they encountered a group of suspected smugglers. The suspects allegedly attempted to evade arrest, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

During the confrontation, one of the suspected smugglers was fatally injured. Other members of the group reportedly fled the scene, taking advantage of the surrounding terrain.

Items suspected to be smuggled goods were recovered during the operation, though details of the seized items have not yet been fully disclosed. Customs operatives are said to have secured the area and recovered the body of the deceased.

The Nigeria Customs Service has reiterated its commitment to combating smuggling and other cross-border crimes, warning criminals to desist from illegal activities or face the full force of the law.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, while security presence has been intensified in the area to prevent further breaches.
