The violence, which initially broke out in parts of the state, reportedly spread to Makurdi, Otukpo and Gboko, triggering fear and tension among residents. Witnesses said the clashes involved gunfire and attacks by rival groups, forcing many people indoors.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the killings, noting that security operatives have been deployed to affected areas to restore law and order. The police added that investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend those behind the violence.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as measures are put in place to prevent further breakdown of peace.
