Operatives of the Borno State Police Command have successfully averted a major security threat after safely defusing an unexploded ordnance (UXO) discovered beneath a telecommunications network mast in Maiduguri.
According to police sources, the suspicious object was detected during a routine security patrol in the area. Upon confirmation, the area was immediately cordoned off to prevent civilian access, while residents were advised to remain calm and keep a safe distance.
The command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was promptly deployed to the scene. After a careful operation, the device was safely defused without any casualties or damage to nearby infrastructure.
Police authorities said preliminary findings suggest the device was deliberately planted to cause destruction and disrupt communication services in the state. An investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The Borno State Police Command commended the vigilance of its officers and reassured residents of its commitment to ensuring safety and maintaining peace across the state. Members of the public were urged to report any suspicious objects or movements to the nearest security agency for immediate action.
