The Edo State House of Assembly has issued an official summons to Hon. Natasha Osawaru Irobosa — the wife of legendary Nigerian singer, 2Face Idibia — following allegations of public misconduct said to have brought the Assembly into disrepute.
Hon. Natasha, who currently represents Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, reportedly became the subject of controversy after online reports circulated about a heated altercation between her and her husband during a recent trip to London — an incident that allegedly resulted in 2Face’s arrest. The situation has since dominated conversations across social media and mainstream media platforms.
During plenary on Monday, December 2, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, expressed strong displeasure over the negative media attention surrounding the lawmaker. He emphasized that Natasha’s behavior has repeatedly cast a shadow over the image of the House.
According to the Speaker:
“Distinguished members, of recent, this Honourable House — a House consisting of cerebral, capable, and highly educated members — has been dragged to the mud for too long by our colleague, Hon. Natasha Irobosa Osawaru. For the past one week, she has been trending negatively across electronic and social media. Major television stations such as TVC, Silverbird, and others have carried these embarrassing reports.”
Agbebaku stressed that the Edo Assembly prides itself as one of the most reputable and distinguished legislative bodies in Nigeria. He insisted that the alleged misconduct of a single member should not be allowed to stain the institution’s public image.
“We want the public to know that this House is decent and reputable. In Nigeria as a whole, this House is among the very best. We have responsible, intelligent members who know exactly what they are doing. Therefore, the actions of one member cannot be allowed to drag the entire House into disrepute,” he added.
Following the deliberation, the Speaker directed Hon. Natasha to appear before the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges within one week. She is expected to present her defense regarding the allegations and show reasons why disciplinary measures should not be instituted against her.
The Committee has been mandated to investigate the matter thoroughly and submit a full report of its findings to the House within two weeks.
