A growing wave of attacks at the Ile-Zik bus stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has left commuters terrified, as robbers reportedly disguise themselves as commercial bus operators to carry out coordinated assaults.
According to multiple accounts, the criminals operate using Danfo buses, pretending to load passengers before suddenly robbing them once the vehicle is in motion. Victims say the attackers often strike in the early hours of the morning or late at night when the expressway is poorly lit and foot traffic is low.
The suspects allegedly collaborate in groups, with some posing as passengers while others act as conductors. Once unsuspecting commuters board, the gang launches into actionโseizing phones, bags, and valuables at knifepoint, and in some cases forcing victims out of the moving vehicle.
Residents and regular road users describe Ile-Zik as a dangerous hotspot, noting that the darkness surrounding the area gives the criminals an advantage. Many fear that the situation could worsen unless urgent security measures are put in place.
Commuters are now calling on police authorities and the Lagos State Government to increase patrols, improve lighting, and deploy security personnel to the stretch to safeguard lives and property.
