Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) Global has issued a strong call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding immediate action to secure the release of schoolchildren recently abducted in Ekiti and urging the government to end all forms of negotiation with terrorists.
In a statement on Tuesday, the advocacy group expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, warning that the country is witnessing a disturbing pattern of mass abductions targeting schoolchildren. According to BBOG Global, over 1,800 students have been kidnapped across the country in the last 11 years, a trend they say reflects the government’s failure to safeguard children and protect educational institutions.
The group condemned the resurgence of school kidnappings despite repeated government assurances, stressing that the abduction of pupils in Ekiti State is yet another reminder that Nigeria has not learned from past tragedies, including the Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction in 2014.
BBOG Global urged President Tinubu to take “decisive and uncompromising action” by mobilising all security agencies to rescue the abducted children safely and without paying ransom. The organisation warned that negotiating with armed groups only emboldens criminal networks and fuels further kidnappings.
They also called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, implementation of safe-school policies, and the prosecution of all individuals involved in orchestrating, financing, or enabling terrorist activities.
As public anxiety grows and parents wait anxiously for news of their children, BBOG Global reminded authorities that protecting schoolchildren is not optional but a constitutional duty.
