The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, as its new National Chairman.
Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and long-standing PDP chieftain, was chosen during the party’s national convention held on Saturday, marking a new phase in the opposition party’s leadership restructuring.
Addressing delegates after his emergence, Turaki thanked party leaders, stakeholders, and members for trusting him with the responsibility of steering the PDP ahead of the next election cycle.
He promised to rebuild internal unity, strengthen grassroots structures, and reposition the party as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.He stated that the PDP must return to its founding values, adding that effective leadership, transparency, and internal democracy will be his top priorities.
Party leaders also expressed confidence that Turaki’s experience in governance and law will help stabilize the party and energize its nationwide support base.With his election, the PDP looks set to begin another chapter as it prepares for future political battles.
