Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, on Wednesday announced the suspension of Justice Minister German Galushchenko following a deepening corruption probe linked to the country’s energy sector.In a brief statement, Svyrydenko said the decision was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in public service, particularly as Ukraine continues to push for reforms amid the ongoing war with Russia.
Galushchenko’s suspension comes after investigators reportedly uncovered irregularities involving contracts and funds within the energy ministry, prompting calls for a full-scale inquiry.
Although details of the allegations remain unclear, government sources said several senior officials are also under investigation.“The rule of law must be upheld, regardless of position or office,” Svyrydenko said, emphasizing that the anti-corruption drive would continue without exception.
Galushchenko, who has served as justice minister since 2021, has not publicly commented on his suspension. However, local media report that he intends to cooperate fully with investigators to clear his name.
The move marks one of the most high-profile suspensions in Ukraine’s recent anti-corruption campaign, which has seen several ministers, governors, and top officials dismissed or prosecuted over graft allegations.
Ukraine’s Western allies have repeatedly urged Kyiv to intensify its anti-corruption measures as a condition for continued military and financial assistance amid its fight against Russia’s invasion.
