The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says the Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has admitted additional evidence in the ongoing trial of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele is facing prosecution by the anti-graft agency over allegations bordering on a $4.5 billion fraud during his tenure as the apex bank chief.At Thursday’s proceedings, the EFCC presented more documentary evidence to support its case against the former CBN governor, which the court admitted after due consideration.
The development marks another key step in the trial, which has continued to attract public attention due to the scale of the alleged financial misconduct.Emefiele, who has consistently maintained his innocence, is being tried alongside other officials said to have been involved in the alleged financial infractions.
