IG halts enforcement of tinted glass law

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the temporary suspension of the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991.The decision follows growing public concern and a recent court order restraining the police from carrying out the exercise.

According to a statement by the Force Headquarters, the suspension will remain in effect pending a comprehensive review of the policy to ensure that its implementation aligns with current realities, citizens’ rights, and national security interests.The police chief urged officers to comply strictly with the directive,

warning against harassment or extortion of motorists under the guise of enforcing the tinted glass law.Egbetokun assured the public that updates will be provided after the review is concluded.
