ICYMI: FG cancels Independence Day parade

News

The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of this year’s Independence Day parade, earlier scheduled to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th anniversary on Wednesday, October 1.In a statement released on Tuesday, government officials confirmed that the decision was taken after due consultations, noting that alternative low-key activities will be held to mark the occasion.

The cancellation means that the traditional military march-past, cultural displays, and other ceremonial events usually staged at Eagle Square in Abuja will not take place this year. While the government did not provide detailed reasons for the decision, it assured citizens that the day will still be observed with solemn national reflections and official broadcasts.

Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and the annual parade has remained one of the highlights of the celebration.
