Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Governor Siminalayi Fubara has raised concerns over the disappearance of food supplies from the Government House store in Port Harcourt, revealing that more than 500 bags of rice cannot be accounted for.
Speaking after officially resuming his duties as the Governor of Rivers State, Fubara disclosed that a recent check uncovered the shocking disappearance of the food items. He described the situation as worrisome and unacceptable, especially at a time when residents of the state are grappling with economic hardship.
“I was briefed that over 500 bags of rice stored for government use are missing from the Government House store. This is not only disturbing but a clear sign of sabotage and irresponsibility. We will get to the root of this matter,” the governor declared.
Governor Fubara assured Rivers people that his administration would not sweep the matter under the carpet, promising that a thorough investigation would be carried out to identify those responsible for the disappearance.
He further stressed that public resources must be used strictly for the benefit of the people, warning government officials and aides against any form of mismanagement or diversion.
This government belongs to the people of Rivers State, not to a few individuals. Anyone found guilty of this act of sabotage will face the full weight of the law,” Fubara warned.
The governor’s revelation comes amid ongoing tensions and political tussles in the state, further fueling concerns about accountability and transparency within government institutions.
Meanwhile, Rivers residents and civil society groups have begun calling for a full audit of government food and relief materials, insisting that the public deserves answers about how such a large quantity of supplies could vanish without trace.
