The Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Issa Aremu, has stated that Nigeria’s official unemployment rate has dropped to about 5 per cent under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Aremu attributed the reported decline to increased economic activities across both the public and private sectors.
He specifically pointed to developments in the downstream oil sector and the manufacturing industry as some of the factors contributing to increased economic activity and employment opportunities.
The MINILS Director-General said the reported improvement reflects changes in the labour market under the Tinubu administration.
However, the claim concerns the country’s official unemployment figure and should be considered in the context of how unemployment is measured and reported by relevant statistical authorities.
