The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has opposed the bail applications filed by 10 defendants allegedly connected to a multimillion-naira methamphetamine laboratory uncovered in Ogun State.
The defendants were arrested in connection with the suspected illegal drug operation, which the agency said involved the production of methamphetamine on a large scale. The estimated value of the illicit drugs and related activities has been put at about N480 billion.
During proceedings before the court, the NDLEA urged the judge to reject the defendants’ requests for bail, arguing that the nature and seriousness of the alleged offences warranted their continued detention.
The agency is expected to present its reasons for opposing the applications as the court considers the arguments from both sides.
The case has drawn significant attention because of the scale of the alleged drug operation and the discovery of what authorities described as a major methamphetamine production facility in Ogun State.
The court will determine whether the 10 defendants should be granted bail or remain in custody pending the conclusion of the case.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
