A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging after finding him guilty of murdering his former employer, 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel.

The tragic incident occurred on April 1, 2024, at the couple’s residence in the Apo Legislative Quarters area of Abuja.

According to the FCT Police Command, an intensive investigation was launched after the couple’s bodies were discovered. The investigation led to the arrest of Marcus in Obajana, Kogi State, where he had allegedly gone into hiding following the killings.

Police said the convict confessed during interrogation that he gained access to the victims’ home at about 11:00 p.m. on the night of the incident before killing the couple.

Investigations further revealed that Marcus had previously worked as the family’s driver but was dismissed after a series of disagreements with his employers.

He was subsequently arraigned before the court, where prosecutors presented evidence linking him to the crime. After reviewing the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, Justice M. S. Idris ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court consequently convicted Jonathan Marcus on two counts of murder and sentenced him to death by hanging.

Reacting to the judgment, the FCT Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. The police also assured residents that anyone found guilty of committing crimes would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
