Makinde Denies Receiving ₦50bn From Tinubu for Ibadan Airport Upgrade

News Trending

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that President Bola Tinubu provided Oyo State with ₦50 billion for the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport.

The governor described the allegation as false, maintaining that neither he nor the Oyo State Government has received such funds from the Federal Government.

Makinde stated that the ongoing transformation of the Ibadan Airport into an international airport is being financed solely by the Oyo State Government. According to him, the project is part of his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and boosting economic development within the state.

His reaction comes after Wike reportedly claimed that President Tinubu had approved and released ₦50 billion to support the airport upgrade project in Oyo State.

However, Makinde firmly denied the assertion, insisting that the state has independently funded the project without any ₦50 billion intervention from the Federal Government.

The development has sparked discussions among political observers, with both leaders standing by their respective positions regarding the funding of the airport project.
