Anambra APC chieftain, Francis Chidozie Okoye, has defended his decision to speak positively about former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi amid the ongoing debate surrounding the state’s debt profile.
Okoye came under criticism from some supporters after making comments that were perceived as favorable to Obi. Reacting to a social media user who questioned whether he was truly working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) or supporting the Labour Party figure, the APC stalwart insisted that political loyalty should not be measured by hostility toward opponents.
According to him, being a member of the APC does not mean he must insult, attack, or discredit political figures from other parties whenever issues of public interest arise. He maintained that political discussions should be based on facts and fairness rather than blind partisanship.
Okoye argued that acknowledging what he considers to be factual information about Peter Obi’s administration should not be interpreted as disloyalty to the APC. He stressed that political maturity requires individuals to separate facts from party sentiments.
To further explain his position, he referenced Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, noting that political leaders can recognize the achievements or contributions of individuals outside their political camps without compromising their allegiance to their own party.
His remarks have continued to generate reactions online, with supporters and critics debating whether party members should publicly defend political rivals when controversies arise.
