Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside officers of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), have foiled an attempted mass abduction of students by suspected ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State.
The school, currently serving as a temporary hostel for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno, came under attack at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
According to a statement by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, the terrorists reportedly gained access to the facility with the help of suspected collaborators.
Security personnel on duty immediately engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, while the Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force quickly arrived to reinforce the troops. The combined response forced the terrorists to abandon their mission and flee the scene without abducting any students

Following the operation, all 46 students in the hostel were safely rescued and evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno, where they received medical examinations and necessary care. Authorities confirmed that all the rescued students are in stable condition.
However, the military disclosed that some students were tragically killed after being struck by sporadic gunfire from the terrorists during the exchange of fire. The exact number of casualties has not yet been officially confirmed.
Security forces have continued efforts to track down the fleeing terrorists, while investigations into the suspected collaborators are ongoing.
