A Ghanaian court has sentenced a TikToker to one year in prison after he was found guilty of publishing false information about President John Dramani Mahama.
The TikToker had claimed in a viral video that President Mahama sacrificed 32 cows as part of rituals to secure victory in the country’s election. The allegation quickly spread across social media but was later found to be false.
According to prosecutors, the video contained fabricated claims capable of misleading the public and harming the President’s reputation. After hearing the case, the court convicted the TikToker and sentenced him to one year in prison.
Authorities said the judgment is intended to discourage the spread of misinformation online and urged social media users to verify claims before sharing them, warning that publishing false information can result in serious legal consequences.
