
Veteran New Zealand actor Sam Neill, best known for his iconic role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park film franchise, has died at the age of 78.
According to a statement released by his family, Neill passed away suddenly in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by his loved ones. His family noted that although his death was unexpected, he had recently become cancer-free after successfully battling a rare form of blood cancer.
With a career spanning more than five decades, Neill starred in over 70 films and television productions, including The Piano, The Hunt for Red October, Dead Calm, Peaky Blinders, and The Tudors. His performances earned him international acclaim and made him one of New Zealand’s most celebrated actors.
Beyond the screen, Neill was admired for his humility, love of farming, and his popular social media posts from his vineyard in New Zealand.
