One person has been confirmed dead and seven others were injured after the new Gombe State House of Assembly complex, currently under construction, collapsed on Friday, July 10, 2026.
The incident reportedly trapped several construction workers beneath the rubble before emergency responders arrived at the scene and rescued the victims.
The Head of Operations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Gombe, Ummanah Ahmed, confirmed the incident. He disclosed that three of the injured victims were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe, while five others were evacuated to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital for medical treatment.
Ahmed added that some of the injured workers sustained severe injuries and are receiving medical care.
The exact cause of the building collapse has not yet been established, as authorities have commenced investigations to determine what led to the incident.
