
Residents of Adebiopon Village in Ogun State have been left in shock following the tragic death of a 50-year-old Ifa priest, identified as Muritala Shodiya, who reportedly set himself on fire.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at his residence in the village under circumstances that are still being investigated. According to eyewitnesses, Shodiya allegedly poured a flammable substance on himself before setting himself ablaze.
Neighbours who noticed the fire rushed to the scene in an attempt to save him, but the flames had already engulfed his body. Despite efforts to rescue him, he reportedly died from severe burns.
The motive behind the incident remains unknown, and residents said they were surprised by the development, describing the deceased as someone who was well known in the community.
Officials of the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the case has been reported and that an investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body has been evacuated and deposited at a morgue pending further investigation.
