The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced results from the June 20, 2026, by-elections held in Enugu, Rivers, Ondo, Kano, Nasarawa, Kebbi, and alongside the Ekiti governorship poll.
APC dominated most races, signaling strong momentum ahead of future elections.
Key Winners:
- Enugu North Senatorial District (Enugu): APC’s Ikeje Asogwa delivered a massive landslide with 162,360 votes, crushing PDP’s Nestor Ezeme (9,299 votes). The seat was vacated by the death of LP Senator Okey Ezea. Voting was largely peaceful across six LGAs.
- Ondo South Senatorial District (Ondo): APC’s Prof. Dayo Faduyile emerged victorious with 68,474 votes. The seat became vacant after Senator Jimoh Ibrahim resigned.
- Rivers South East Senatorial District (Rivers): PDP’s Olaka Nwogu (backed by a Wike-led coalition) won with 47,961 votes, comfortably ahead of APC’s candidate (around 1,647 votes).
- Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency (Kano – House of Reps): APC’s Rabiu Shuaibu secured a decisive win with 35,356 votes.
- Nasarawa North Senatorial District: APC candidate Halilu Danladi Envulu-Aza (or similar naming) was strongly positioned to win in the party’s stronghold, with early results favoring APC.
- Zuru State Constituency (Kebbi – House of Assembly): APC’s Rabiu Garba Aiki won convincingly.
Overall, APC reinforced its dominance in several states while PDP held ground in Rivers. Polls were generally peaceful despite reports of low turnout, BVAS glitches in spots, and minor irregularities.
These outcomes provide key insights into party strengths as Nigeria looks toward 2027. INEC is set to issue Certificates of Return to winners shortly.
