The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a soldier and four hostages lost their lives during a failed abduction attempt involving Chinese expatriates in Ogun State.
According to the report, troops responded to an attempted kidnapping operation targeting Chinese nationals in the area. During the confrontation with the suspected abductors, a firefight reportedly broke out.
The Army stated that while efforts were made to rescue the victims, the situation resulted in casualties, including a serving soldier and four of the kidnapped hostages.
Security operations are said to be ongoing in the area as authorities work to track down the attackers and prevent further incidents.
