The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a staff member of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) over an alleged N3.2 million salary fraud.
The defendant was brought before the court on charges bordering on fraud and obtaining money under false pretences. According to the anti-graft agency, investigations revealed that the accused allegedly manipulated salary payments and unlawfully received funds amounting to N3.2 million.
The EFCC stated that the case is part of its ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes and ensure accountability in public institutions.
In separate cases, the commission also arraigned other defendants over alleged fraud involving N650 million and N500,000 respectively. The suspects were charged before different courts on various counts related to financial misconduct.
All defendants pleaded to the charges brought against them, while the courts granted bail under different conditions and adjourned the matters for further hearing.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to prosecuting individuals involved in corruption and financial crimes, regardless of their status or position.
