The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom State Command, has arrested 39 suspects and sealed off an illegal private security outfit operating without the required government license.
The Command disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during an operation targeting an unauthorized security company identified as Uniquely Network Rescue Services, which had allegedly been operating illegally within the state.
According to the NSCDC, the firm failed to obtain the necessary operational license as stipulated by law, prompting security operatives to shut down its activities and arrest individuals linked to the organization.
State Commandant of the NSCDC emphasized that private guard companies must comply with regulatory requirements before commencing operations, warning that the Corps would continue to crack down on illegal security outfits across the state.
He noted that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to sanitize the private security sector, protect residents, and prevent unauthorized groups from carrying out security-related activities.
The 39 suspects are currently undergoing investigation, while the NSCDC assured residents that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Corps further urged members of the public to verify the legitimacy of private security companies before engaging their services and to report any suspicious or unregistered security outfits to the appropriate authorities.
