An Abuja Federal High Court has dismissed the no-case submission filed by activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, in the cyberbullying case instituted against him over alleged comments about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The court ruled that the prosecution had presented enough evidence to require Sowore to open his defence in the ongoing trial.

Sowore is facing charges linked to alleged cyberbullying and the use of social media posts said to have targeted the president and other public officials.

During earlier proceedings, Soworeโ€™s legal team argued that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him and urged the court to dismiss the charges without requiring him to defend himself.

However, the trial judge rejected the no-case submission, holding that the evidence before the court was sufficient for the matter to proceed.

The court subsequently ordered Sowore to enter his defence as the trial continues.

The case has continued to attract public attention, with supporters describing it as a test of free speech and digital rights in Nigeria.
