Kwara State has taken a significant step in the fight against HIV/AIDS by launching a free, twice-yearly anti-HIV injection for residents at risk of infection. The initiative features Lenacapavir, a long-acting injectable medication designed to prevent HIV transmission.
Health officials explained that the program aims to strengthen existing HIV prevention strategies and reduce new infections across the state. By providing Lenacapavir at no cost, the government hopes to make HIV prevention more accessible and convenient, particularly for individuals who may face challenges adhering to daily oral medication.
The State Ministry of Health emphasized that the program targets vulnerable populations, including those in high-risk groups, and will complement other preventive measures such as condom distribution, testing, and counseling services.
