Fire Razes NLC Secretariat in Sokoto, Destroys Decades of Records

A fire outbreak has destroyed the secretariat of the (NLC) in , leaving behind extensive damage and significant losses.

The incident, which reportedly occurred in the early hours, is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault, although authorities are yet to release an official confirmation following a full investigation. Eyewitnesses said the fire spread rapidly through the building, making it difficult to salvage property before emergency responders arrived.

As a result of the blaze, decades’ worth of vital documents, records, and office equipment were completely destroyed. The secretariat, which served as a central hub for union activities in the state, has now been reduced to rubble, disrupting administrative operations.

Officials of the in the state have expressed deep concern over the incident, describing the loss as a major setback. They noted that many historical records and important files that could not be recovered were lost in the fire.

Fire service personnel were eventually able to bring the situation under control, preventing the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. No casualties have been reported so far.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough assessment of the damage and determine the exact cause of the fire, while efforts will also be made to rebuild and restore the operations of the secretariat.
