Fresh tensions erupted in the Middle East on Wednesday after drones fell near Dubai International Airport, injuring four people, while several commercial vessels were struck in or around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.
Authorities in Dubai confirmed that two drones landed close to the airport area, leaving four foreign nationals injured. Despite the incident, flight operations at the busy international airport continued without major disruption.
At the same time, maritime security officials reported that multiple ships were targeted by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway that carries nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. At least three vessels were reportedly damaged during the attacks, including a cargo ship that caught fire after being hit near the coast of Oman.
Crew members aboard the affected vessels were evacuated, although initial reports suggested that some sailors were briefly unaccounted for before rescue operations began.
The attacks are believed to be part of Iran’s ongoing campaign to disrupt oil markets and shipping traffic in the Gulf region amid rising tensions with the United States and Israel.
Security has since been tightened across several Gulf states, with increased protection around major airports, ports, and oil facilities as fears grow that the conflict could further threaten global energy supplies and international trade routes.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most strategically important waterways in the world, making any disruption there a major concern for global markets and regional stability.
