A devastating fire outbreak has destroyed a shopping complex in Ajegunle, Lagos State, leaving shop owners counting heavy losses estimated at millions of naira.
According to eyewitness accounts, the fire reportedly started in the early hours following a power surge, which quickly spread through the complex due to the presence of highly flammable materials. The inferno engulfed several shops before emergency responders could fully contain it.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were said to have arrived at the scene and worked tirelessly to put out the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
Although no lives were lost and no casualties were recorded, many traders lost their goods and means of livelihood in the incident. Shop owners were seen salvaging what remained of their properties as sympathisers gathered at the scene.
Authorities have advised residents and business owners to take extra precautions with electrical installations to prevent similar incidents, while investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing.
