At least four residents have been killed and several houses razed following a fresh attack by suspected bandits on Wawa community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The assailants reportedly stormed the community in the late hours, shooting sporadically and setting homes ablaze, forcing many residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety. Eyewitnesses said the attackers moved from house to house, looting valuables before torching buildings.
Local sources confirmed that four people lost their lives during the invasion, while an undisclosed number of residents sustained injuries. Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, leaving many families displaced.
This latest assault has heightened fear among residents, who say attacks on the community and surrounding areas have become more frequent in recent months. They lamented the slow response of security agencies and called on the government to urgently deploy more personnel to protect lives and property.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were said to be monitoring the situation, while efforts were ongoing to restore calm in the area. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
