The Nigerian Army has rescued 31 victims of kidnapping and arrested 17 suspected criminals during coordinated military operations carried out across several states of the federation.
The operations, conducted by troops in collaboration with other security agencies, targeted known criminal hideouts, forests and flashpoints where armed groups have been operating. The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the military to curb kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes nationwide.
According to military sources, the rescued victims included men, women and children who had been held for varying periods under harsh conditions. They were successfully freed without any casualties during the operations and have since been handed over to relevant authorities for medical checks, profiling and reunification with their families.
During the raids, troops also arrested 17 suspects believed to be directly involved in kidnapping and other criminal activities. A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, including rifles, magazines, locally made weapons and other dangerous items suspected to have been used to terrorise communities.
The Nigerian Army said the success of the operations was made possible through credible intelligence, effective planning and the professionalism of the troops involved. It reiterated its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and denying them freedom of action across the country.
Residents of the affected communities have been urged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and accurate information, while the military assured Nigerians that efforts to restore peace and security would be intensified.
The arrested suspects are expected to be handed over to appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution, as the Army continues its nationwide operations against criminal networks.
