Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled a planned revenge attack by suspected bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, following a prolonged gun battle that forced the attackers to retreat.
Security sources said the troops, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly mobilised to the affected communities after receiving reports of suspicious movements by armed men believed to be planning reprisals over recent military operations in the area. On arrival, the soldiers engaged the bandits in a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted for several minutes.
The superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres of the troops reportedly overwhelmed the attackers, compelling them to flee into nearby bushes. No casualties were recorded among civilians or security personnel, and no property damage was reported during the encounter.
Items suspected to have been abandoned by the fleeing bandits were recovered at the scene, while follow-up patrols and clearance operations were carried out to prevent a regrouping of the attackers.
Residents of the affected communities expressed relief over the timely intervention, praising the military for averting what could have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property. They also called for sustained security presence to deter future attacks.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations against criminal elements in the region.
