Islamic scholar, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, has called on the Federal Government to immediately stop all military cooperation with the United States following reported airstrikes targeting ISIS terrorist elements in Nigeria.
Gumi, who spoke while reacting to the development, warned that foreign military involvement could worsen insecurity rather than solve it. He argued that Nigeria’s security challenges should be addressed internally through dialogue, intelligence-led operations, and reforms within the country’s security architecture.
According to him, external military actions risk escalating violence, causing civilian casualties, and undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty. He urged the government to focus on non-military solutions, including addressing the root causes of extremism such as poverty, injustice, and poor governance.

The Federal Government has not yet officially responded to Gumi’s call or clarified the extent of any military cooperation with the United States regarding the reported airstrikes.
