Some Politicians Are Funding Terrorism in Nigeria’ — Former CDS Lucky Irabor

News

Former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.), has alleged that certain politicians in the country are deliberately exploiting, enabling, and even financing insecurity to advance their political interests.

Irabor explained that Nigeria’s security problems are multi-layered and cannot be traced to a single factor. According to him, the nation’s prolonged battle with terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes is being worsened by individuals who benefit from instability.

He noted that while security agencies continue to make sacrifices to protect citizens, progress is often undermined by influential actors who manipulate conflict situations for personal or political gain. The retired military chief stressed that such conduct not only endangers national stability but also prolongs the suffering of innocent Nigerians.

Irabor urged the government, intelligence agencies, and the public to remain vigilant and to expose any persons or groups involved in sponsoring violence. He added that combating insecurity requires collective effort, political will, and a commitment to addressing the underlying social, economic, and political issues driving unrest across the country.
