The Federal Government on Tuesday dismissed reports claiming that open grazing has been banned across the country, describing the information circulating in some media outlets as misleading.
According to the government, there is currently no federal law or directive enforcing a nationwide prohibition on open grazing. Officials noted that while some states have enacted their own anti-open-grazing laws in line with their constitutional powers, these decisions remain state-based and not a uniform national policy.
The clarification comes amid growing public debate over livestock management, security concerns, and the push for ranching as a long-term solution to farmer–herder conflicts. The government stressed that discussions on modernizing animal husbandry are ongoing, but any national framework would require broad consultations, legislative processes, and stakeholder agreement.
Authorities urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that the Federal Government had already implemented a sweeping ban, emphasizing that accurate information will be communicated through official channels.
