Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and Operation Zafin Wuta, have successfully arrested a suspected kidnapper during an intelligence-led operation in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to the Army spokesperson, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, Geyi has long been on the wanted list of security agencies due to his suspected role in several kidnapping operations within the Wukari corridor. Preliminary findings by military investigators linked him directly to the abduction of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei–Kulala community, who was kidnapped on 13 November 2025 and is still being held by his captors.
Lt. Mohammed disclosed that the troops acted swiftly after intercepting telephone communications in which the suspect allegedly confirmed the victim’s continued captivity and insisted on a N20 million ransom before any negotiation for release could proceed. The troops reportedly tracked and arrested him while he was still deep in the ransom discussion.
He further stated that Geyi is currently in military custody and has begun undergoing intensive interrogation aimed at extracting useful information that could lead to the safe rescue of the abducted victim, as well as the identification and dismantling of the wider criminal network he is believed to be part of.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism, rapid response, and operational precision. He assured residents of Taraba State that the Brigade remains committed to rooting out criminal gangs, restoring peace in affected communities, and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes face justice.
General Uwa also urged the public to continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies, noting that such cooperation has been instrumental in recent breakthroughs in the fight against kidnapping and banditry across the region.
