Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, is reportedly recovering at his residence in Abuja after taking ill, according to multiple sources within the Presidency.
Contrary to circulating rumours suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was considering a possible replacement, officials have clarified that there are no plans to remove or substitute the minister at this time.
A senior government source confirmed that Mr. Edun, a key member of President Tinubu’s economic team, has been under medical supervision but is “responding well to treatment” and is expected to resume full official duties soon.

The source further emphasized that the President continues to have complete confidence in Mr. Edun’s ability to drive ongoing fiscal and economic reforms, adding that “the administration remains focused on stabilizing the economy and sustaining the current recovery momentum.”
Mr. Wale Edun, who was appointed in 2023, has been instrumental in implementing several major economic policies, including exchange rate unification, fiscal consolidation, and foreign investment reforms aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s economy.

As of the time of this report, the Ministry of Finance has not issued an official statement, but aides close to the minister confirmed that his health is steadily improving.
