Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has clarified his recent remarks on the state’s security situation, insisting that his comment about “no genocide” has been widely misinterpreted.Speaking through his media team, Governor Alia emphasized that he has never denied the killings, attacks, or displacement of residents in Benue State, noting that his administration has consistently condemned the violence and has been working with security agencies to restore peace.

According to him, the statement he made was aimed at urging the public to avoid exaggerations that could escalate tensions or hinder ongoing peace and security efforts—not to dismiss the painful reality of lives lost in the state.He stressed that the humanitarian situation across several communities remains a top priority for his government and called on citizens, media outlets, and stakeholders to avoid twisting his words for political or personal purposes.

Governor Alia further appealed for unity and cooperation, adding that only accurate reporting and collective action can help Benue overcome its security challenges.
